Do you want fries with that? …is not something that you’ll ever hear Ibrahim Massoud say. For him chips will always be chips. He’s been running his fish ‘n’ chip shop for 30 years, ever since he left Lebanon, and he considers making chips a work of art.

Not like his son David, who thinks frying chips is only ever a part-time job. David‘s mother Samira wants her son to take over the family business, and to marry someone suitable, no matter how much Ibrahim disagrees.

Besides, Ibrahim would much rather give the business to his Sudanese co-worker Negasi. Meanwhile Bear, Ibrahim’s redneck best friend, is eager to remind the young African that he doesn’t belong in Australia. And while everybody else can’t understand why Bear and Ibrahim are such close friends, neither man is giving anything away.

So how does one man manage to keep it all in perspective?

He just keeps on frying!
