Margaret Gold
Out of My Head
Gold uses her abstract/expressionist technique to uncover and explore autobiographical components of her subjects. Her style blurs the boundaries between painting and drawing. Working from her own photos and pictures found in magazines and film archives she reinvents her own portraits.
Her subjects’ assertive stares suggest that her paintings are not actually about them but about the viewer’s own interpretation.
“Margaret Gold creates a psychological drama and tension in her powerful portraits. Like apparitions, her cast of characters emerge from a haunted, fragile and uneasy world, their gaze fixed intensely on the viewer.“ Diane Soumilas, Curator.
