the tango: argentine social history in sight and sound
Fresh from their crowd-pleasing performance at diamonds downstairs, our 10 year birthday showcase, Faye Bendrups, Guillermo Anad, and Dave Evans return to our stage with a tango performance steeped in the rich history it has sprung from.
Esteemed scholars of Latin American Studies at the ANU, Faye Bendrups and Guillermo Anad will take us on a unique journey around the tango and explain how it represents Argentine social history from the late 19th century to the present day. They will be joined by renowned Australian musician Dave Evans to showcase a panorama of rarely-played tangos, and the space will be rich with visual ephemera taken from their extensive collection of tango iconography.
Join them here for an unforgettable evening of live tango music, engrossing discussion, and evocative visuals.
