Inspired by… ancient Minoan ceramics, Byzantine paintings, site-specific folkloric tales and ancestral stories…
Travel, transition, instability and small moments of stillness are the themes underpinning this body of mixed media works on paper by Josephine Fagan. The imagery is symbolic and informed by her 6-week residency in Athens and Skopelos, Greece, where she set out to investigate cross cultural symbols of fortune, mythology and history. Inspired by a range of influences during the residency including ancient Minoan ceramics, Byzantine paintings, site-specific folkloric tales and ancestral stories, she has produced a suite of images that offer the viewer an insight into the artistic process from initial ideas to experimentation, synthesis and generation of works; moving from flux to stasis and back again.
Josephine Fagan is a cross disciplinary artist and educator, practicing since 1999.
