Mary Lou Jelbart worked for ABC Radio National for many years as a presenter of programs about the visual and performing arts. She was a regular reviewer of theatre productions and visual arts from the mid 80s to 2002 for ABC radio 774, as well as reviewing craft for The Age. She is the founder of the St. Kilda Festival, and the St. Kilda Short Film Festival, and in 2002 set up fortyfivedownstairs in collaboration with Julian Burnside QC and a number of Board members who are still involved with the venue to this day. It has been a labour of love which she has found deeply enriching.
