New paintings is John Cullinane’s third exhibition at fortyfivedownstairs.
In this new body of work John explores the ongoing relationships between the male and female psyche, and throughout uses the shadow as a metaphor for the measurement of time. He plays with the idea of reality; creating invented images with no specific meaning, that speak of the irony of modern life the artist finds both amusing and tragic at the same time.
With a career spanning over 25 years, John is an iconic Western Australian artist whose works are a reflection of infinite talent and his intense dedication to creating work that constantly keeps us guessing and questioning; which only the best can do.
John’s works are included in many public & private collections including: The National Gallery of Australia, Barry Humphries, Ziyin and Carrillo Gantner and Julian Burnside.
