Syrian composer and oud player Adnan Baraké draws on middle-eastern and western traditions in search of a unique musical voice. Strongly influenced by traditional Arabic music, Adnan explores country, bluegrass and classical styles to create contemporary sounds on this ancient instrument.
Adnan’s musical virtuosity has received world attention, including that of legendary Iraqi oud master Naseer Shamma who described Adnan’s technique as “original and innovative; he produces new sounds from the oud”.
Join us for the launch of his second album, Syrian Orpheus, featuring original works for the oud.
This project has been supported by the City of Melbourne.
