Andrea Jenkins is a Melbourne-based artist whose professional practice has remained centered in, around and about Melbourne throughout the last decade.
In Vacancy Jenkins explores Melbourne’s empty spaces. She weaves her way around the bustling business district, up and down stairwells, through alleyways and behind closed doors.
There is an underlying sense of emptiness, remoteness, perhaps even loneliness in the paintings and drawings but also in the somewhat macabre sculptural figures. Jenkins imparts a quiet stillness inviting the viewer to dwell with her in these precious spaces, forgotten but not gone.
Vacancy is supported by the City of Melbourne.
